Low noncarbonic buffer power amplifies acute respiratory acid-base disorders in patients with sepsis: an in vitro study

نویسندگان

چکیده

Patients with sepsis are poorly protected against acute respiratory acid-base derangements due to a lower noncarbonic buffer power, which is caused both by reduction in the major buffers, i.e. hemoglobin and albumin, reduced buffering capacity of albumin. Electrolyte shifts from red blood cells determining variations strong ion difference mechanism during disorders.

Acid-base disorders in patients with hypoproteinemia

Hypoproteinemia is a common disturbance in patients suffering from various diseases. It can be accompanied by hypovolemia and hypotension that influences the volume space of drugs in the body as well as the acid-base balance. In the present study, 22 patients with hypoproteinemia (8F, 14M) constituted group A. In this group the acid-base disorders as well as their importance were evaluated. Fro...

Quantitative Analysis of Acid-Base Disorders in Patients with Acute on Chronic Respiratory Failure and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. A Prospective, One Center Study

Background: With Stewart approach, pH depends on strong ion difference (SIDe), PaCO2 and non volatile weak acids (Atot). This approach might detect complex acid-base disorders undetected by conventional approach. We designed this study to describe acid-base disorders with both Stewart and conventional approaches and to compare the diagnostic performance in patients with chronic respiratory fail...
